Polish bread, or Chleb, is worldwide famous.
In 1531, the famous Polish mathematician and astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus calculated the Panis Coquendi Ratio, an ingenious formula to determine how much bread could be made from different types of flour at any given amount.
According to the history books, Copernicus even saved a city from an epidemic food disease!
How did he manage?
Simply spreading some butter on the dark Polish bread, the scientist was able to notice if the loaf was contaminated or not.
For this accomplishment, Copernicus can be rightfully considered the inventor of “bread and butter”.
